How is MERN assigned?

The principle of assigning a MER Number closely follows the legal registration process of a given legal entity and is associated with its official registration number in the relevant jurisdiction/country of incorporation. Similarly, MER Number will follow the entity throughout its entire legal, registration process, up to its dissolution from the relevant corporate registry.

On what principles was the MER Number established?

  • MER number should not be an incremental number;

  • it must be unique and have a large pool/range available;

  • it must be human-readable;

  • it cannot contain special characters, only numbers and letters;

  • it must be encrypted and not disclose identifiable information.

MER Number is an anonymized identifier generated through the Marcura Compliance system. It is subject to extensive validation processes related to the unique number, as well as subject to extensive due diligence and screening processes performed on the entity.

Each MER Number (MERN) is unique and is issued automatically upon completion of the corresponding due diligence process and sanctions screening. MERN is generated as a digital alphanumeric code by using an algorithm that applies advanced data management principles and techniques for improved security and interoperability. ​

Any entity directly or indirectly involved with maritime industry and its supply chain can apply to obtain Maritime Entity Record Number (MERN). To proceed, please complete the registration form on the link below:

MER Number can be awarded to Organizations that are either officially registered legal entities and/or government institutions or departments, to Corporate Officers (generally Key Management), and to Vessels.
